About Golden Eagles Football

The Glen Ellyn Golden Eagles Youth Football program participates in the west suburban Bill George Youth Football League. It is a competitive travel program where players learn and develop the fundamentals of tackle football, teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in a supervised, organized and safe atmosphere. Teams are formed based on age, weight, and ability.

ImPACT® BASELINE TESTING 
 

We are once again providing baseline concussion testing for all players in the 103lb, 118lb, and Senior levels.  These tests will be administered free of charge by Athletico staff on 7/30 and on 7/31 at Glenbard South from 12:30p-3:50p.   Although the test data is good for 2 years, our commitment to player safety suggests best practices to be tested annually.  


You will receive an email with registration instructions in the next few days and will continuously until the testing opportunity is complete.  Slots are still available so sign up now!

Golden Eagles Football Season Is Right Around the Corner!!!

Our 51st season of Golden Eagles Football is right around the corner at Newton Park and Hadley Jr High with Evaluations Week!  Please note these important details pertaining to the schedule and what is required from you and your players:

HIGHLIGHTS AND NEWS

 
  • The Flag Division will begin their Clinics on Monday, 7/28 at Hadley Jr High.  Equipment distribution will be done at that time as well.  This will begin at5:30 pm and go until 7:00 pm.  Please go to the football website(www.glenellynfootball.com)  on the Flag Football tab, for a layout of the first few weeks.
  • The Tackle Division will begin there evaluations on Thursday, 7/31 at 5:45 pm sharp at Newton Park Please note that in an effort to help our families extend your summer, the GEGE pushed back the start of the season until 7/31 while the rest of the BGYFL begins on Monday 7/28.
  • Monday, 8/4 will be our annual Family Night to be held at Newton Park beginning at 7:35 All evaluation practices will be ending at 7:30 and we will gather at the North end of the main field on the hill for a program update and upcoming events.  Please plan on attending.
  • We are again offering the  baseline concussion testing for all players in the 103lb, 118lb, and Senior levels.  These tests are administered free of charge by Athletico staff on 7/30 and on 7/31 at Glenbard South.   Although the test data is good for 2 years, our commitment to player safety mandates the best practice to be tested annually.  You should have received an email with registration instructions, and will continuously until the testing opportunity is complete.  Those who would still like to be tested, must contact Athletico to arrange the test to be administered, but please note, once contact begins, a player may NOT be tested!
  • The franchise position to address safety issues in the sport has enabled ALL coaches to be members of the USA Football HeadsUp program and now requires that we will have ALL coaches on the sidelines, certified in the latest and safest techniques and drills for our players
  • Jamboree (8th Annual) takes place 8/09 and 8/10 at Newton Park.  You will receive a separate note about the Jamboree as there are too many details to cover here.  For now, hold the dates as there are scrimmage games for all teams and volunteer responsibilities assigned to every team at every level.  Stay tuned!
  • We will be hosting our annual Parent's Kickoff Night on Friday, August 29th at the Village Links Golf Course in Glen Ellyn.  Hopefully the notice will allow ALL to join us!  Attendance is free and will feature food and beverages with the added bonus of free live music!  This is our way of bringing our parents(this is an adult only gathering) together in a fun atmosphere to celebrate the coming season and show our appreciation for your involvement!  
     
  • Evaluation Week
     
  • 7/31 from 4:00 to 5:30 - Equipment Distribution for players that did not receive helmet/shoulder pads on scheduled dates - there will be a hard stop at 5:30 so that volunteers can proceed to practice areas - be early to avoid lines
  • 7/31 to 8/04 - Evaluation Week takes place at Newton Park every day from 5:45 to 8:00 for all tackle levels.  Saturday, 8/02 will have early morning sessions and will wrap up before noon.
  • 7/31 OR day 1 - Helmet and mouthguard only for non-contact drills
  • 8/01 OR day 2 - Helmet, mouthguard and shoulder pads for non-contact drills
  • 8/02 OR day 3 - Full pads sessions begin including contact drills
  • Gold teams will be selected after the 8/04 session(or before) and will be announced by 8/05 at noon via our website
  • Silver teams will be selected after the 8/04 session and will be announced by8/05 at noon via our website
  • Players not in camp will be unassigned until evaluated upon arrival and must follow the day 1-2-3 protocol for transition to contact drills
Season Information
 
  • Practices will run from 5:45 to 8:00 nightly through 8/22
  • Beginning 8/25, practices will move to Tue/Thu/Fri days and will remain 5:45 to 8:00 through the end of the season
  • 8/09 & 8/10 - Jamboree (more later)
  • 8/16 or 8/17 - pre-season bowl games
  • 8/23 or 8/24 - pre-season bowl games
  • 8/30 or 8/31 - regular season week 1 games
  • 10/25 or 10/26 and 11/01 or 11/02 - playoff round 1 and 2 games
  • 11/07, 11/08 and 11/09 - Super Bowl Weekend at Benedictine University in Lisle
Important Player/Family Information
  • Players may not participate in ANY football activities without a functional mouthguard!
  • Players need to hydrate BEFORE practice as much as DURING practice...bring plenty of water!
  • Player safety is paramount...go to our Safety page for updates throughout the season!
  • Volunteers are always needed...join in and help out...it makes a difference!
